The Circuit Court of Cook County sits in several buildings. Which one hears your case depends on the kind of case and where in the county it arose. Your court papers always state the courthouse and courtroom; use this page to orient yourself, and follow the papers if they differ.

In Chicago

  • Richard J. Daley Center, 50 W. Washington St., Chicago, IL 60602. Most civil cases, the Domestic Relations Division (divorce and parenting cases), the Probate Division and the Chancery Division.
  • George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2600 S. California Ave., Chicago, IL 60608. Most felony criminal cases from Chicago.
  • Domestic Violence Courthouse, 555 W. Harrison St., Chicago, IL 60607. Orders of protection and related cases.

Suburban Cook County (municipal districts)

  • Second District, Skokie Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077. Northern suburbs, including Evanston and the North Shore.
  • Third District, Rolling Meadows Courthouse, 2121 Euclid Avenue, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. Northwest suburbs, including Schaumburg and Arlington Heights.
  • Fourth District, Maywood Courthouse, 1500 Maybrook Drive, Maywood, IL 60153. Western suburbs, including Oak Park.
  • Fifth District, Bridgeview Courthouse, 10220 S. 76th Avenue, Bridgeview, IL 60455. Southwest suburbs.
  • Sixth District, Markham Courthouse, 16501 S. Kedzie Parkway, Markham, IL 60428. South suburbs.

Other courts you may deal with

  • Federal court: the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois sit in the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in the Loop.
  • DuPage County: cases are heard at the DuPage County Judicial Center in Wheaton.
  • Lake County: cases are heard at the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit courthouse in Waukegan.
  • Immigration court: the Chicago Immigration Court is downtown; your hearing notice gives the address.
