Workers' Compensation in Chicago: general information
General information, not legal advice. Ask a lawyer about your situation.
- Report a work injury to your employer as soon as possible; Illinois law sets a 45-day notice requirement.
- Illinois caps lawyer fees in workers' compensation cases at 20 percent of the compensation awarded, with limited exceptions, and the Commission must approve the fee.
- A claim generally must be filed with the Commission within three years of the injury or two years of the last payment, whichever is later.
- Keep a record of every doctor visit and every day of work missed.
