Privacy policy

This policy explains what Gavel Chicago ("we"), operated by Harvest Season, collects and what we do with it.

If you contact a firm

We collect your name, email, ZIP code, optional phone, the practice area, when you'd like to talk and your message. We send it to the one firm you chose, and only once that firm has claimed its listing; until then we hold it and tell you so. We never send it to any other firm. Your message itself is stored only in our database; our notification tools and logs see that a message arrived, not what it says.

We keep a record of your name and contact details in our customer database so we can show the firm that the message came through us and handle any problem. Your message text and timing are not copied into that database. We don't market to you, call you or text you, and we don't use your details for advertising.

If you claim or add a listing

We collect your name, role, work email, phone, any registration number you choose to give, and your corrections, to confirm you work at the firm and keep the listing accurate. If you send a letter of good standing, we record only the method, status and date, then delete the file.

Separately, and only if you tick a box for it, we may email you and show you ads about the purposes you chose:

  • Email me about client-growth services from Harvest Season (Gavel's operator), and use my email to show me Harvest Season ads. Optional; you can unsubscribe any time.
  • Email me about AI for Lawyers workshops and trainings from HYB, and use my email to show me HYB ads. Optional; you can unsubscribe any time.

We record which boxes you ticked, the version of the wording and the time. Your choice takes effect only after we have confirmed, by email, that you work at the firm. You can withdraw any of them at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to [email protected]; withdrawal is honored across all of our systems.

Analytics

We use cookie-free analytics (Plausible) to count page views and clicks on contact links and forms. It records no personal information. We don't run advertising pixels on pages for consumers.

What we never do

  • We don't sell personal information.
  • We don't pass a consumer's message to any firm other than the one they chose.

Security and retention

Data is sent over HTTPS and stored with access controls on Google Cloud. Consumer messages are kept for 24 months, then deleted. Claim records are kept while the listing exists. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you as Illinois law (815 ILCS 530) requires.
